The Acumen Equity Partners (AEP) Group is an alternative capital provider offering tailored debt guarantee and GP equity solutions designed to optimize value-add, opportunistic projects in the greater Washington DC area. ACUMEN Construction offers a range of construction management, design/build, scheduling and consulting services. Our tactical and innovative approach toward building has assisted in earning us notoriety as an emerging developer in the Washington, D.C. area.

The ACUMEN Construction Management team provides top notch-in-class preconstruction and construction services for all projects executed. During this phase of these projects, ACUMEN Construction facilitates the selection of the general contractor and oversees contract negotiations. Once construction begins, we handle the construction efforts, administer the technical consultants as well upkeep quality control, cost control, and schedule performance.

ACUMEN Affordable is part of companies’ evolving mission to not only offer indisputable high-grade real estate developments but also to maintain accessibility to all communities. This new arm of the ACUMEN Companies is driven by our dedication to the communities in which we operate. The inventory of affordable housing has steadily declined while the demand economically accessible housing has increased. Shawn Weingast
Director of Capital Markets

Shawn Weingast is the General Counsel and Director of Capital Markets at the Acumen Companies. Shawn is responsible for sourcing new capital investment as well as oversee a variety of transactional issues. He brings significant real estate investment, structured finance, joint venture and management expertise to our team as well as development experience throughout the Mid Atlantic.

Prior to joining the Acumen Companies, Shawn was General Counsel and Managing Director to Best Industries and Gunston Hall Realty and its subsidiaries. During his tenure, he acquired, financed, rezoned, developed, leased, constructed and sold numerous properties in the U.S. and Canada totaling over a quarter-billion dollars. He has purchased, re-entitled, rezoned, subdivided, developed, constructed, leased and/or sold over 5,000 acres of land, 5,000 lots and a million square feet of commercial property.

Shawn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from Brandeis University and a Juris Doctor degree from the George Mason University School of Law.

Abiud is a successful real estate investor with over 10 years of experience developing and managing commercial properties in Washington, D.C. In 2013 his development company, Urban Investment Group, was named one of the top five fastest-growing real estate firms in the country by Inc. Magazine’s Inc. 5000 list.

Over the past two years, he has developed over $289MM in residential properties totaling over 500,000 SF. Through a concerted effort of maintaining near-term liquidity and taking advantage of distressed, value-add opportunities, Abiud has continued to grow his real estate portfolio and recently celebrated 10 years of operations in the District.

Abiud is actively involved in local fundraising efforts and interactive business groups. He is currently the President of the Washington Developers Association, a member of DCBIA, and serves on the advisory board of multiple local banks in Washington, D.C. He makes regular appearances on local radio programs and as a guest lecturer for the Entrepreneurship Program at the University of Maryland.
